2025 AGM & TREE PLANTING

The combination of the Cheyne Walk Trust’s 50th anniversary and the 150th anniversary of the Embankment gave this year’s AGM a real sense of history, with a highly enjoyable and informative talk by Sir Peter Bazalgette on the work of his illustrious great-great-grandfather, Sir Joseph Bazalgette. Sir Peter also planted a mulberry tree in Chelsea Embankment Gardens on behalf of the Council for the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, The Cheyne Walk Trust and the Chelsea Physic Garden. The AGM was followed by a convivial reception in Petyt Hall.

Memorial Tree Planting 18th November 2025 at 6pm by Sir Peter Bazalgette

We are delighted that Sir Peter Bazalgette has kindly agreed, on behalf of the Council for the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, The Cheyne Walk Trust and the Chelsea Physic Garden, to plant a mulberry tree in Chelsea Embankment Gardens to mark the 150th anniversary of the opening in 1874 of the river Thames embankments designed by his illustrious great-great-grandfather, Sir Joseph Bazalgette.

The tree will be planted in Chelsea Embankment Gardens halfway between the Old Church (64 Cheyne Walk) and the statue of Thomas Carlyle (opposite the south end of Cheyne Row). The planting will be followed by the AGM and Reception of the Cheyne Walk Trust for members and guests at 6.30 pm in Chelsea Old Church and afterward at Petyt Hall.
